Google believes in the potential of women. Our Grow with Google and Womenwill training programs enable women in Africa to empower themselves, helping to close the gender equality gap across the regions and leading to positive social and economic impact.

In Africa, face-to-face communication is essential and community is an integral part of everyday life. With that in mind, it was important to launch our educational program in-person. So we held a series of live events in 25 cities across the region with masterclasses, talks and trainings to educate women.

We created a short film that showcases the stories of inspirational entrepreneurial women across the Nigerian (Simi, Teni the Entertainer), South African (Sho Madjozi, Lady Zamar, Shekhinah) and Kenyan (Muthoni Drummer Queen) music scene. Their diverse talents include being singers, songwriters, performers, rappers, event founders, mentors and sound engineers.

Told through the lens of the music industry and creativity, it explores the Womenwill themes of entrepreneurship, digital literacy and leadership – fundamental skills that are universal to any profession.

By telling the stories of how these women overcame challenges and empowered themselves to succeed, we hope to show that women, with the right tools and opportunities, can achieve anything. The film was created to encourage women in the region to get involved in Google Africa’s skills training programs, including talks, workshops and communities, to help them take the next step in their career.
